The French Bilingual Association is an Australian not-for-profit association based in Northern Melbourne. Its mission is to promote and champion French bilingualism in Melbourne.

Our current objectives are:

  • To create and support a French-English Bilingual Immersion Program within one or several public primary schools of North Western region of Melbourne;
  • To assist children through extra-curricular activities in French;
  • To organise social events for the French-speaking community.

Who Are We?

The French Bilingual Association represents over 167 French-speaking families and 222 children living principally in Melbourne’s northern suburbs. The majority of the families are permanent/long-term residents or dual citizens from a range of countries with a majority of families living in a bilingual context.

Our main aim is to launch a new French bilingual program in one or several existing public primary schools of the North Western region of Melbourne.

In Australia, despite our geographical isolation and the fact that we speak English, there are many bilingual schools, notably amongst primary schools in the large cities.
In Melbourne for 2016, 11 schools will be running bilingual programs, 2 of which are for French/English instruction.
